Staff Sgt. Sheila Veerapen, and her husband, Master Sgt. Sean Veerapen, both deployed to Kandahar Airfield to the 451st Expeditionary Logistics and Readiness Squadron. They are deployed out of the 35th Aerial Port Squadron at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. When deployments usually separate a married couple, after 15 years of marriage, this couple was able to spend their first Fourth of July together here in Afghanistan. Damage was minimal on base, however flooding is still an issue in the low lying areas on some roads and parking lots. The whole base worked together to secure all important equipment and material, while also setting up shelters and responded to any emergency calls.
