Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts Program
The Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts Program is a career development and employment assistance program that helps military spouses pursue licenses, certificates, certifications or Associate's Degrees (excluding Associate's Degrees in General Studies, Liberal Arts, and Interdisciplinary Studies that do not have a concentration) necessary for gainful employment in high demand, high growth portable career fields and occupations. Military spouses grades E-1 to E-5, WO1 to CW2 and O-1 to O-2 are eligible for MyCAA financial assistance. Eligible spouses are provided a maximum of $4,000 with an annual fiscal cap of $2,000. MyCAA will cover tuition cost and training courses and examination leading to an Associate Degree. Eligible spouses can create an online account on the MyCAA Spouse Portal https://aiportal.acc.af.mil/mycaa. The website provides information on participating schools, degree programs, CLEP/DSST test preparation materials and many more. MyCAA education counselors are also available to answer any questions. EFMP Summer Campership Program
The Military and Family Support Center and the Exceptional Family Member Program are taking campership requests for this year's summer camps for children who have special needs. Army Military Clothing Stores Provide Free Alterations for Wounded Soldiers
The Army & Air Force Exchange Service is offering free alterations and modifications to all severely wounded, ill and injured Soldiers at all 79 Army Military Clothing stores around the world. This Army-led initiative ensures all wounded Soldiers receive free alterations and modifications on all issued uniforms in accordance with the Wounded Warrior Clothing Support Program to include the Army Service, Combat and Improved Physical Fitness uniforms as well as undergarments. Eligible Soldiers must present an approved Army Form 3078 along with the prescribed modifications by the physical or occupational therapist to receive free services.
87th FSS MPS Hours of Operation
Need an ID card or to make an update in DEERS? The 87th Force Support Squadron Military Personnel Section offers these services among others. Appointment hours are from 7:30-10:30 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Walk-ins are welcome between the hours of 7:30 and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. JB MDL Thrift Shops
McGuire
The McGuire Officers Spouses Club Thrift Shop is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays and the first Saturday of each month. The shop accepts gently used donations. The MOSC Thrift Shop accepts consignments from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesdays through Fridays. Proceeds benefit Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, local, and national organizations. Dix
The Dix Thrift Shop Hours are Tuesdays and Thursday and the 1st and 3rd Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Donations can be dropped off during business hours or placed in the shed after hours. The shop is looking for volunteers. High school students can accumulate community service hours by volunteering. Proceeds help fund scholarships sponsored by the Dix Spouse and Civilian Club. Lakehurst
The Navy Marine Corps Relief Society Thrift Store is open every Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday 9 a.m. to noon and Thursday 1-5 p.m. at 158 Berry Road. The thrift shops sales income is returned to the Sailors, Marines and their families in the form of emergency financial relief services. Donations after hours may be placed in the donation locker located by the front door. Opportunities are available for volunteers to sort merchandise, arrange displays and work as cashiers. EBSCOHost Discovery Search Engine Training
The Joint Base Librar-e and Resource Commons Reference Librarian is set to host EBSCOHost Discovery search engine training on the first Wednesday and Thursday of every month. New 87th Medical Group Urgent Care Guidance
The 87th Medical Group has implemented new guidance with the closure of the Lourdes Medical Associates After-Hours Family Practice Clinic last year.
To schedule an appointment or to reach the after-hours on-call provider (option 3), call the 87th MDG appointment line at (866) 377-2778. The on-call provider can authorize after-hours urgent care in addition to providing advice and follow-up care in the 87th MDG. Call (877) Tricare if you are unable to reach the 87th MDG on-call provider. Tricare can also authorize urgent care.
75-day Leave Carryover Extended
Airmen with more than 60 days of leave at the beginning of next fiscal year may be able to carry it into the next fiscal year thanks to a provision in the FY 2013 National Defense Authorization Act. The provision extends the maximum leave carryover of 75 days through Sept. 30, 2015.
Dial '562' For Service
Phone users will be need to dial '562' when placing phone calls to other phone users on Dix. Phone users will no longer be able to reach other Dix-area users by dialing 2-####. This change is being implemented to standardize and improve caller information sent to emergency 911 databases. Call 754-5454 for more information.
MOSC Scholarships
The McGuire Officers' Spouses' Club scholarship committee is accepting applications from military dependents. The Attic

Crafty Birthday Parties
The Arts and Crafts center offers a chance for community members to host birthday parties at the center. Palace Chase and Palace Front Briefings

The Financial Readiness Program assists service members and their families in improving personal financial status and their ability to perform as informed consumers. Education and Training ABCs of College Briefing
An ABCs of College information session is set to be held every third Thursday of the month at 9 a.m. in the Education Center, 3829 School House Road., Falcon Courts North housing area Room 206. The briefing will provide information on how to choose a school and major, determine payment methods, plan for career success, register for upcoming classes and gain information about degree types. MPS Passport Appointments
The Military Personnel Section passport office will accept appointments only for official passport processing. Appointments are available from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Fridays. Call 754-3826 to schedule an appointment. Passport pick-ups will continue to be handled on a walk-in basis during normal MPS customer service hours. The Alcoholics Anonymous meeting is set to be held from 7:30-8:30 p.m. every Tuesday at Range Control Headquarters on Dix. Alcoholics Anonymous is a 12-step support group whose only requirement is the desire to stop drinking. This meeting is an open meeting available to anyone who wants or needs to better understand alcoholism and its effects. There are no dues or fees, only the desire to live a life free from alcohol. Days of Remembrance Paperclip Campaign
The Joint Base Special Observance Committee is set to host the Holocaust Days of Remembrance "Paperclip Campaign," a campaign started by the Academy School District 20 April 7-14, 2013. Civilians will be asked to wear a paperclip visibly on their clothing to demonstrate opposition to Nazism and anti-Semitism like the Norwegians did during World War II. Various locations throughout base, such as the Librar-e and Resource Commons, located at 2603 Tuskegee Airman Ave., will have a small display with paperclips available to visitors. The purpose of this event is to demonstrate support of equality and opposition to racism, prejudice, and hate crimes. Call 754-2079 for more information.
Pemberton Gate Closure
The Pemberton Gate is scheduled to close from today until April 1, 2013, during the scheduled school closure. Pemberton Gate hours were recently changed to support 87th Security Forces Squadron operations and meet the needs of the Fort Dix Elementary School buses. The 87th SFS is dedicated to ensuring a safe community for base personnel while also striving to meet the needs of individuals who live, work and play at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.
87th Medical Group Pharmacy Closure
The 87th Medical Group Pharmacy is set to be closed from March 22 through 24, and reopen March 25, 2013, as part of a refurnishing project. Customers requiring refills should contact the automated refills line at 754-9470, or (888) 223-2448, or go to www.tricareonline.com, two weeks before a prescription runs out to avoid a delay due to renovation. Refills will be expedited to one business-day turnaround the week of March 18. New prescriptions will be processed on the same day. Contact 754-9464 or 87mdg.pharmacy@us.af.mil for more information. McGuire Power Plant Demolition Project
Demolition of the McGuire Power Plant and associated facilities will continue through June 2013. Additional truck and construction vehicle traffic can be expected in the area.
Road closures
Repairs and paving to existing Naval Air Systems Command access roadway will continue to enhance smooth driving and safety. A roadside drainage ditch will be constructed in addition to regulatory signs, striping and guardrails. Partial road closures may occur as the work progresses.
Repaving of Hancock Road is currently scheduled for completion by Spring 2013. Traffic will be reduced to one way with flaggers during paving operation. Portions of Hancock Road and Steven Circle may be closed due to low traffic volume and availability of detour routes. Watch for workers striping roads.
Replacement of the sanitary sewer main that runs under Broidy Run on the southbound right turn from Texas Avenue to Broidy Road is currently scheduled for completion by May 6, 2013. Right turns from southbound Texas Avenue onto Broidy Road may be restricted during the construction. Alternate routes to access of Broidy Road between Delaware and Texas Avenues via Delaware Avenue, or proceed south on Texas Avenue to Airfield Road, then north on Delaware Avenue to Broidy Road.
Point repairs and slip lining of sanitary sewer mains and services is currently scheduled through June 2013 in the 5600 area of Dix. Access to sidewalks, parking lots, alleys and streets may be limited or restricted for short periods of time (up to a day) throughout the 5600 area as the work progresses.
Water Line Replacement
Water line replacement work is currently scheduled through the end of 2013 in the 5500 and 5600 area, between Willow Pond and the U.S. Air Force Expeditionary Center, and between Doughboy Loop and Texas Avenue on Dix. Access to the sidewalk along Texas Avenue will be impacted during construction. During work in the shoulder of 8th Street, traffic may be restricted by construction crews in the area. Construction equipment and activities may limit access to interior roadways and parking lots intermittently during the work. No road closures are anticipated.
Relocation of the water main on Alabama Avenue between 13th Street and 14th Street is scheduled from April 22 through May 3, 2013. Alabama Avenue will be closed for the duration of the work. Users in the area may experience possible water outages during the work.
Electrical System Upgrade
Electrical system upgrade work at 1907 East Arnold Ave. is currently scheduled through Dec. 2013 for the demolishing of old electrical service and distribution within the facility. Intermittent electrical shutdowns will be required to disconnect old service and reconnect to the new distribution system.
87th ABW Lobby Renovation
The lobby to the 87th Air Base Wing headquarters, located at 2901 Falcon Lane, will be closed intermittently during renovation work through April 30, 2013. Visitors and personnel seeking access to the building must use the side or back entrances.
Griffith Field House Renovation
The main entrance to the Griffith Field House, located at 6053 Doughboy Loop will be closed for renovation work through April 26, 2013. Visitors and personnel seeking access to the facility must use the doors located on the East side the building (doors adjacent to the Smoothie Bar).

Recycling Guidelines
Recycling materials must be placed

Do not place any paper or cardboard in
your recycling bin, trash can or plastic bag.
Paper can be placed in a brown bag,
bundled or placed in a low-lying box.
Shredded paper must be placed in a
paper bag or in a cardboard box.
Cardboard boxes must be flattened
and bundled. Cans, glass bottles and
plastics must be rinsed clean.
Do not flatten or place in plastic bags.
Labels can stay on but caps and lids
must be thrown away in the garbage.
