Operation Homefront seeks MCOY nominees
Operation Homefront is accepting nominations for the 2016 Military Children of the Year awards. The eighth annual awards will recognize six young patriots, ages 8 through 18, to represent the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and National Guard. Nomination packages will be judged based on scholarship, volunteerism, leadership, extracurricular involvement and how the nominees face the challenges of military life. The six awardees will each receive $10,000, a laptop and will be flown to Washington for a gala April 14, 2016. Nominations are being accepted through Dec. 11. Chief's Chat is held the last Friday of the month at 4 p.m. at Pudgy's Fireside Lounge, located at 2508 Can Do Way. A Cars, Bikes and Coffee social gathering for automobile and motorcycle enthusiasts is held two Saturdays per month from 8:30 to 11 a.m. at the Burger King parking lot, located in front of Bldg. 5399 Burger King Drive. Joint base cleanup days
Due to the Air Force and Air Mobility Command reduction to grounds maintenance standards implemented in fiscal year 2014, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst will conduct periodic base cleanup days throughout the summer months. In order to comply with these directives and the associated 15% budgetary cut, JB MDL has implemented the Joint Base Common Level of Standards, changing the contract requirements for grass heights and eliminated weed control.
