CAPTAIN MUHAMMAD KHAN

Captain Khan was born in Karachi, Pakistan and immigrated to the United States in 1981.  He graduated from North Texas State University with a B.S. in Computer Science in May 1985.  He was commissioned through the Aviation Officer Candidate School in December 1989. 

Earning his wings in May 1991, and upon completion of initial A-6E Intruder training in Attack Squadron VA-128 at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, he reported to the Boomers of VA-165, where he completed one Western Pacific/Indian Ocean deployment aboard USS NIMITZ and participated in Operation SOUTHERN WATCH.  In 1995 he transitioned to the S-3B Viking and reported for his next fleet assignment with the Scouts of Sea Control Squadron VS-24 in Jacksonville, Florida, where he completed two Mediterranean/Indian Ocean deployments aboard USS JOHN F. KENNEDY and USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT and participated in Operations SOUTHERN WATCH and ALLIED FORCE/NOBLE ANVIL.  In 2001 he reported to the Topcats of VS-31 aboard USS JOHN F. KENNEDY and supported Operations ENDURING FREEDOM and ANNACONDA.  In July 2005, he assumed the responsibility of Naval and Amphibious Liaison Director at the Combined Air and Space Operations Center in Al-Udeid Air Base, Qatar where he volunteered to take part in earthquake relief efforts in Pakistan as part of Operation PROVIDE COMFORT before returning to VS-31 as their Executive Officer and then Commanding Officer.  He led the squadron on their Indian Ocean/Arabian Gulf combat deployment aboard USS JOHN C. STENNIS in support of Operations ENDURING and IRAQI FREEDOM.  In July 2008, he reported as the Air Boss on USS CARL VINSON.  In January 2010, under his expertise, his team conducted critical Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief in Haiti in support of Operation UNIFIED RESPONSE.

 

Captain Khan’s shore and staff assignments include Sea Control Weapons School Viking Tactics Instructor, Joint Operations Assistant Branch Head in the Operations and Intelligence Division on the staff of Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) in Mons Belgium, where he oversaw the planning of Operations ODYSSEY DAWN and UNIFIED PROTECTOR.  At SHAPE he was the personal advisor to Supreme Allied Commander Europe for Islamic Affairs/Muslim Outreach and Pakistani Subject Matter Expert.  Next, he served as Division Chief for Pakistan-Afghanistan Division and Afghanistan-Pakistan Hands Management Element for the Director for Strategic Plans and Policy, Joint Staff, J-5.  Most recently, he was the Senior Defense Official/Defense Attaché in Libya External Office in Tunis, Tunisia, where he oversaw the execution of Operation ODYSSEY LIGHTNING.

 

The captain is currently assigned as deputy commander, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, and commander, Naval Support Activity-Lakehurst.  He is the principal advisor to the JB MDL commander and provides senior leadership to Navy personnel across the joint base.  

 

Captain Khan holds a Master of Arts Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island.  His awards and accomplishments include the Defense Superior Service Medal, two Defense Meritorious Service Medals, two Meritorious Service Medals, three Air Medals (Strike/Flight), and various other personal and unit awards.  He has accumulated over 3600 flight hours and over 1000 arrested landings on 10 different aircraft carriers.

 

He is married to the former Shenaz Hessaun Ally of Boston, Massachusetts and has three children, a daughter, Hannah Amelia and sons, Gabriel Hafeez and Armaan Muzzafar.
